Top 10 Natural Wonders of the U.S.

Denali national park

The U.S. is home to some of the most beautiful natural scenery around. Just take a look at Ansel Adams‘ work. I have compiled a list of my Top 10 Natural Wonders of the U.S. You may have others and that is absolutely fine. Maybe I will get a chance to check some of your favorites.

1. Devil’s Tower National Monument, Wyoming

I was not expecting to see so much controversy surrounding an ancient volcano core, but a quick trip to your search engine of choice will fill you with awe.

2. Grand Prismatic Springs, Yellowstone, Wyoming

A trip to Yellowstone is usually capped off with a viewing of Old Faithful. You should definitely see it, but try to get to the springs. The sights are amazing.

3. Redwood National Park, California

Redwood national park

In a word, Majestic. I visited this place as a youngster and cannot wait to return as an adult. I know I did not appreciate the wonder in front of my eyes.

4. Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee

Smoky mountains

Smoky does not do justice to the what you will encounter. There’s no stop, drop, and roll here. My advice, wait for the sun to take care of the fog before the fog takes care of you.

5. Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

This is another childhood memory. Visiting family in Denver always put us in a great location. The Continental Divide is truly breathtaking. I highly recommend a visit.

Here are a few places that I have on the bucket list:

6. Arches National Park, Utah

We drove through Utah when I was a kid, but I do not remember visiting any of the National Parks there. Arches looks like the kind of place I could get lost in for hours.

7. Crater Lake, Oregon

8. Multnomah Falls, Oregon

Would you believe that I made it to the Pacific Northwest and did not get a chance to see either of these two beauties? I have to get my life together.

9. Acadia National Park, Maine

Maine is on my short list. I’m coming for you.

10. Denali National Park, Alaska

Alaska seems so for off for me at the moment. However, you must stretch and push your boundaries to grow.

Honorable Mentions:

There are so many places that could have been on my Top 10 Natural Wonders of the U.S. Too many. Here are some that I thought about.

Cascade Loop – Washington. There are numerous sites along the loop that will make you fall in love with nature over and over.

Grand Canyon – Arizona. I was tempted to include this in my top 10. The views are stunning and anxiety inducing at the same time.

Everglades – Florida. Still untamed. Still remarkable. You may even come to enjoy the company of alligators…Okay. Maybe not.
